Hi all

I'll be moving to Hong Kong from Ireland around the end of July totake up a job in Hong Kong Central area.

I'll be working in the Healthcare industry so pay is adequate but not excessive. I have looked at the various options for accommodation near work and the prices are eye-watering. I also don't want to live in a chicken coop on a battery farm so anywhere near work or in HK itself just doesn't grab me.

I will be looking for somewhere reasonably priced (max HK$15K pcm, ideally cheaper). From my research, living outside the central HK area seems to be the way to go.

Lamma Island seems to tick all the boxes for me

I'll be looking for a 1 bedroomed apartment within walking distance to ferryport to Central. I’m also looking for somewhere quiet and peaceful so somewherewith greenery or water views would be a bonus.

I would appreciate any feedback or advice. You never know, I might even be your next next door neighbour!

Thanks.

Brian

FOR JUST UNDER 13K, HAVE YOU CONSIDERED SOUTH SIDE OF HONG KONG ISLAND?

THERE ARE MANY 350-SQ-FT CHICKEN COOPS ASKING FOR OVER 17K

Really? Never seen one of those anywhere on Lamma yet. Tell us more, with specifics!
I'm interested as we're currently looking at flats all over Lamma. For 17K you'd expect a fancy, vastly overpriced 700sqft rooftop flat with views. Quite a few of those, up to and beyond 20K, available in Yung Shue Wan. We looked at several a few months ago with some Chinese relatives, they decided to move into a much cheaper, brand-new village house rooftop flat close to an MTR station.

The last two 700sqft rooftop flats with amazing views we looked at were below 10K, one of them is half a minute from 2 ferry piers with 3 ferry routes... But both of them are outside the most expensive Greater YSW Area (where rents have not dropped at all since we moved out two years ago and it all still looks unaffordable to return??)
