Much discussion about this one in BF at the following link:
http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=132764
and in large part by being led in the right direction by Mike Kilburn........ thanks Mike

Neil & I went back to the same spot this morning and whilst we didn't see the chap, heard him all around us......, no recording device but both of us agreed is definitely a "tsic" and NOT a "tac".
Conclude we are looking at a Yellow-streaked Warbler

Glad to know there is a rarer species around the valley.

Got the Olive Backed Pipit in the late afternoon ...

I have a digital recorder - maybe I can get a few sounds and see if the hotshots can get something from that. (Looks like a dusky to me, I'm afraid)

Nice one's Harry.

Looked like a Dusky to me too & to a lot of others..., but when you look at the beak & legs, are too thick for a Dusky, not a Raddes coz of plumage etc, so by a process of elimination leads to a Yellow-streaked.
Understand plumage can be variable, but then as per the BF link, you could be looking at a first year winter.

In the meantime, no debate on this one.....

Hi Harry....... put the hide back in the same spot & is a bit more comfortable. Trouble is may have to bring the perches a little closer next week...... my dog decided to make friends with my 500mm & it broke in half - at least a month before I get it back, so will be back using the 70-200 or 300

Seems I have to change it to Dusky Warbler....
Paul Leader apparently an authority on these things....

{L_QUOTE}:
Despite what you say about the call, to me this is a fairly typical adult winter Dusky Warbler. It does have an obvious dark border above the supercilium which is regularly shown on both Radde's and Yellow-streaked, but it is also well known that some Dusky Warblers can show this.

Yellow-streaked is extremely similar to Radde's and can be very tricky to separate, the separation of Dusky and Yellow-streaked should not really be an issue.

This bird lacks the uniformly pale legs and feet, well defined supercilium behind the eye and thicker bill of Yellow-streaked (and Radde's).

This is also an adult (based on the bright undertail coverts and flanks and white belly); as such an adult Yellow-streaked would show obvious yellow streaks on the underparts - which this bird lacks.

There have been some stunning shots posted here in the past couple of weeks. Just to remind everyone how difficult it is to get photographs like these, here are a couple of more amateur offerings, just for the record.

I counted 14 of these hair-crested drongos in a small flock flying over my rooftop, but only a small sample were visible as they settled in to the Acacia tree opposite.

Meanwhile, the neighbouring turn-in-the-wind tree (Mallotus paniculatus) is in flower and attracting a number of visitors, including this Chinese blackbird
