over to the old quarry opposite So Ku Wan, which is now a not-unpleasant nature reserve, witha big lake and newly planted trees, check it out if you have the time.
On the way back I noticed a lovely new addition to lamma's hillsides, off the path down from the pagoda to Hung Shing Yeh, just past the motorway bridge, is a big ugly green concrete box - anyone know what it is?

Thanks for your tips! I'll take a look of the new stonemine after the rain stops, and perhaps take some photos for people abroad to see.

Sounds like there have been some changes. The last time that I saw the quarry, it was a quarry, complete with rusting machinary and a background drone. Is this new area open to the public?

Yep, you get to it by going to the youth hostel and then towards Luk Chau Village, just before the path to Luk Chau starts heading down a little path branches off and goes through some undergrowth and an open gate in a fence. It comes out at the top of the quarry, I said hi to a number of workmen in the quarry, picking up garbage and they smiled and waved, so I guess it is open.

The work that has been done at the quarry was an article on page 4 (I think) of the South China Morning Post on Monday 23 September. They didn't the weird green TARDIS near the motorway bridge not surprisingly though

so when will people of Lamma be able to use the area, does anyone what what kind of disaster the Government is planning for the site ?

Yes, it's got a sign saying a "Fire service pump house". But not for putting out hill fires as you might hope, there are no hydrants there. It's something to do with the youth hostel, the pipes lead from to there. I think it's to give them more water pressure. But the job is a real bodge, the pipes hem in the path and use ten times as much cement as necessary (compare with the old pipes on the other side of the path).

I can't understand why it couldn't have been built on the hillside behind the hostel. It seems likely to be another rort, a way to spend the most amount of money laying the most cement physically possible.

Recently there was a proposal to widen that section of the path (see my website <a href="http://lammapaths.cjb.net" target="_blank">lammapaths.cjb.net</a>. To do that now they'd have to rip up these new pipes, lay the cement, put them back; thus being paid (because it's the same people doing all this) three times for the one job.

I finally managed to take the walk yesterday late afternoon from Sok Kwu Wan back to Yung Shu Wan. It was already a bit dark, but guess the ex-lamma-nites might still be interested.
