islandcouple {L_WROTE}:
Middle of nowhere, difficult to get to or from, no shops or anything else (sorry, one tiny shop that doesn't have much aside from a lovely dog), boats very infrequent and only to Aberdeen, have to travel to YSW (25 minute walk one way) for everything else, on or off the island - don't get me wrong, if you like absolute isolation then its fine, but the main thing is that in the summer the heat makes it VERY difficult coming and going from Pak Kok, even more difficult than it already is...
Living in Pak Kok for almost 2 years, I agree with much of islandcouple's first paragraph. And yes, we moved here mostly because of the rent, but have started to appreciate the advantages of living here, like the peace, amazing views, nature and almost NO TOURISTS EVER (nothing to see here, just boring trees and dangerous wildlife!)
Walking, not biking to YSW yesterday, no big deal, even in the summer heat at lunchtime. The nature and wildlife all around you are just amazing this time of year! But no tourists on this part of the Lamma-wide Family Trails, even on a Sunday.
Looking at "the most expensive flat in Pak Kok" this week, just for fun, as we're currently looking at whether to leave or stay here. Greater YSW Area still looks unaffordable, so what about Sok Kwu Wan, Lo So Shing, Mo Tat Wan, or somewhere even more remote than Pak Kok? Ferry-less Lo Tik Wan or Luk Chau, perhaps? Really cheap, or try squatting in one of the many abandoned buildings for free for a short or long while...
Or move to Park Island, like my two ex-Lammaite friends who got married in the Beer Garden yesterday. 4 swimming pools, all the amenities and conveniences you could dream of, plus Noah's Ark amusement park in walking distance, a kind of Super-Discovery Bay, for rents quite similar to Yung Shue Wan?
