The Citizen's Party has a report on the workshop, a PDF available at Sept20-2003WorkshopReport.pdf. You may notice some familiar figures in the photos.

What happened at these fora? Was it mere window dressing to alleviate growing anxiety in HK of Beijing's growing CCP dictatorship?

Those who care need to organize a Lamma meeting and have photos taken and submit to the SCMP to get attention. We say: "use some of that money for the harbour project to do A and B." Face it: these politicians just DON'T KNOW what Lamma really needs to even become cooler. It behooves those Lammanites who care to take a stand.

Yes, easier said than done.

If not perhaps there could be a campaign hindering the harbourfront project from completion...

What money?
My understanding is that the planned millions for the 2nd phase harbour reclamation have been re-allocated to other projects. In govt. projects in general, if you don't use the budgeted money, you lose it.

The 2nd phase of the reclamation looks dead for now. Save Lamma has been mostly inactive this year besides the occasional email, I think. The mission of stopping the 2nd phase reclamation has been accomplished, so most of the key people have moved off Lamma and on to other, bigger things, like fighting the Wanchai/Central Harbour Reclamation. Some of them will leave HK for good very soon. The Save Lamma website and emails seem inactive. It's a pity, as no active successors are in place yet, as far as I can tell.

The reduced 2nd phase of the reclamation, worked out in many meetings between Save Lamma, residents, govt. and politicians, is just a pretty plan for now. It'll take many years to be even considered for implementation. There's no funding for it anymore inside govt. and with the spending cuts, it'll take years, if ever, to get new funding. All the public facilities & infrastructure planned for this area are also on hold indefinitely.

The fight should shift to actually open up all the mostly barren land in the FIRST reclamation for public use & facilities. For now there's only a refuse collection and the temporary helipad in this huge area of already reclaimed land. Nothing more has been done with it for several years and it's growing over with weeds. Releasing this land for public use, for the good of residents, is the next step Alex Chan seems to be working on, but he'll need lots of help...
