Saw one or two this morning sitting on branches or wires. When I looked in the sky, there were many wheeling around together in acircles, then they all faced same direction flew off towards Hong Kong Island. Pictures are not so good, for the record only.

Nice to have a record of this movement - it's quite early this year. I was expecting the final week in April to stake out the lookout above Pak Kok village. The wheeling flocks are quite a sight, even if they are quite high up in the sky. Would be good to have a video record too. I see that there were huge flocks at Po Toi at the weekend reported on the HKBWS site.

Just a reminder that it is Official Chinese Goshawk week, the time Chinese goshawks migrating from the Phillipines, stopping off at their marshalling area over Pak Kok Shan, usually about 8.30 to 9.30 am, where they wheel around in flocks before heading off north.

Some years there have been rather large movements, with flocks numbering in the hundreds, although they tend to stay fairly high in the sky, so you can't see much without binoculars. Large numbers seem to be associated with some kind of storm surges, so the moevemnts are very weather-dependent.
