This little bird - about half the size of my fist, with dark olive feathers on its back, white tummy and a greenish-yellow colour on the side - has been flying into my kitchen and bedroom windows for just over a week now.

It would rest on the outside drainage pipes, take off and then fly into the window, then retreat to the pipes again. So far, it hasn't shown any interest in coming inside. When I open the windows, it would simply fly into the windows again.

I now theorize that the bird lost its group, and is flying into the windows as it sees its own reflection, but consider that a companion. While I don't really mind the marks it leaves on my windows, I am a little concerned that if it keeps crashing its beak into the fortified glass windows, it might affect its eating.

Would the bird-experts know what it is trying to do, and if I could help this poor little bird?

Either this is the same bird or there are more birds of the same species with this strange behaviour. A bird with the same description has been doing exactly the same thing to my office window. I'm Samson's neighbour, so it might be the same one.

The bird is most persistent and even after hitting the glass it will still try to push forward against the glass in midflight. I haven't managed yet to get a photo, as it's been doing it less frequently recently, not several times a day anymore. It seems to have moved on to Samson's place, as it wasn't "successful" at my place...

Mating season is over long ago, so what kind of behaviour could have gone wrong here?

It sounds like a tailor bird. I've seen one of these doing exactly the same thing at my house. It could carry on for days and days. Perhaps it is attracted by its own reflection in the glass? there's not much you can do to stop it really. the one at my house seemed to suffer no ill-effects from its strange behaviour. Apart from looking a bit dishevelled.

(Tailor Bird (Orthotomus sutorius), A Small restless olive green bird known for its unique nest made by stitching two leaves together.)

Well, Gung, I'm quite certain that it's the same bird... and it seems to be launching waves of suicidal attacks attacking the headquarters of this nifty little website!

The bird has been hard at work outside my kitchen every day from dawn 'til dusk, so, plenty of photo opportunities here, don't worry!

2 weeks later and the bird is still here. The noise of its beak hitting the window is getting irritating, and don't get me started on the trail of biologocal waste it leaves on my window sills. Argh! Argh! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

A friend of mine used to have their roof covered in bird poo, then they put a few fake snakes there and ever since then their roof has been spotless. I wondered if you could use the same way?

hope this works and good luck.
