Has anybody seen Spirited Away? If you like that movie, you should see hayao Miyazaki's animations. They all have one thing in common: they make you feel so peaceful inside.

Castle in the sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Totoro and Valley of the Wind(?) are the ones I have seen. Blockbusters(a movie rental chain in Canada) here have all except valley of the Wind. If you rent DVD, watch the Japanese version with English subtitle first. Disney has done a very good job in voice over, but still can't quite capture some of the "spirits" if you know what I mean:)

Our boys, 5 & 4, love Totoro. They sang the song for weeks after watching the movie:) They also like Kiki and Castle in the Sky. Spirited Away is a little "scarry" for them they said. I will check and see if they have Goodbye Fireflies at Blockbusters.

Ah yes, the absolute master of traditional 2D animation. I'm a big fan of his and Spirited Awat is by far my favourite animated movie of last year. After seeing it in the cinema it was just released on DVD. Absolutely magnificent, imaginative, spell-binding, magical. It has to be in Japanese with subtitles, as it would lose too much in dubbing it to another language.

Most of Miyazaki's other animations have been shown on HK TV already, incl. Kiki's Delivery Service (several times), Laputa - Valley of the Winds, the one with the wolf people & elves, etc.
But I need to get Castle in the Sky and Fireflies from Blockbusters soon.

e, wanna share them?

Pom Poko is my favorite, I want to know how disney will deal with all the sex related stuff in it though...

The manga of Nausica is very good if you can get it, Viz comics (the american one, not the british) did a translation a few years ago. Avoid the older english version of the anime, it sucks very badly and Miyazaki has disowned it (it was done without his permission and cuts out half the film)

thanks for the offer, Lamma-Gung, but as i said, i vowed not to see Goodbye Fireflies again. i don't want to cry my eyes out again. i seldom, seldom cry at movies. this is the very exceptional. Castle in the Sky has also been shown on the tv b4.
