Marc Antony {L_WROTE}:
Screens I will never like - they make me think of prisons. Anyway, I just don't think they'd work in our flat - we'd have to screen all the bathroom windows as well as one or two in the bedroom and I just can't see how the things work in any case - you never open those windows again?!
In my place we have the usual aluminium framed windows, two hinged vertically like doors, one at the top hinged horizontally.
So I've glued screens on the top one (which I usually leave open) and one of the bottom. I can open the third window, reach out and pull or push the others closed or open. I cut holes for the handle/latches on the frame.
Been doing this for over 10 years, it's not a problem.
Costs about $5 and 20 minutes work per window.
It's either that or seal your windows and use aircon 24/7.
If you own the place, you might invest in removable screens, built to order.
I've never understood why in Hong Kong, known as a malarial pest hole until 50 years ago, (Happy Valley cemetery is full of malaria victims) doesn't have screens as a standard fitting. In Thailand, a much poorer country, homes are much cheaper but designed for the climate and efficiently and conveniently screened.

I was kind of hoping someone had found a bio-friendly mozzie destroyer. It's about time someone invented one.
If there were, this wouldn't be true:

"According to the World Health Organization there are 300 to 500 million clinical cases of malaria each year resulting in 1.5 to 2.7 million deaths."
