Gutting, loved the rolls at Mr. Kebab, and LaLa Mama's did the best breakfast on the island, great atmosphere and a nice view too. I hope you guys are able to find somewhere to reopen!

Arrrgggh! Everytime I hear Diesel's is going I get anxious. Where will we be drinking after work and meeting up with all? No other bar on Lamma seems to tick all the boxes.....

Why is the food and beverages industry so blighted in Lamma? Enough of those nick-nack shops, give me hearty food and a good pub! :!: (at decent prices, please dont bring another Deli Lamma fiasco....)

Horrible thought: will we all be suddenly healthy and give up drinking?

Not kebab related again but property related so kind of relevant:

http://www.property.hk/eng/news_content ... NEWSPROPEN

On the topic of F&B places closing down I went for my wonton mein fix today at the little place opposite the property agent on back street and the young guy that works there told me they have closed down permanently. I asked why but he just shrugged his shoulders.

Does anyone else know a place to get authentic wonton mein?

I asked the lady at Lala Mama and she said they'll be remaining open for another 10 months at least.

Yes, LaLa mama will remain open for the time being. But for the real close-down date, you'll have to ask her landlord Jackson who wants to redevelop those two buildings, including his own property agency office.

In the meantime, Yo Lau Kee, the wonton noodle shop besides "Best Kebab", opposite Shelly's cake shop, has closed for good, also due to rent problems.
Also, the Mr Kebab offshoot in Tsim Sha Tsui, Mr Kebab Cafe, had to close a few weeks back due to rent-related reasons, according to Ali of Mr Kebab.

In the meantime, some old favourites like Waterfront with their new Indian menu and Pizza Milano with their new breakfasts and set lunch options seem to be doing great. And you get unexpected entertainment while having a late lunch, for example yesterday:
an underwear fashion shoot with two Russian(?)-speaking models, as tall and skinny as expected, especially in ultra-high heels, looking like "Lamma's Next Top Model". Anybody wants to see pictures?

I think the question should have been.....

Is the Pope Catholic?

Do bears shit in the woods? :-)

How can they say no photos when they strut their stuff on a public street?

You'd be grumpy too if you had to wear two bras at the same time.

One more "restaurant" closing down very soon, "C-5" the Pinoy Store in the Red House in Sha Po Old Village, featured in the Lamma-zine just a few weeks ago. No cooking there but they offered home-made takeaway lunches and great home-made Halo-Halo smoothies, my (non-alcoholic) favourite.

They're closing not because of increased rent (their 2-year rental contract just started a few months ago) but because some govt. guy mentioned that they're not supposed to have a dry goods shop in that 1-storey type of building. The landlord got cold feet, instead of just ignoring a warning like this, as seems to be the usual practice, usually with no follow-up from the govt. So the landlord is trying to break the rental contract to get them out, giving them only 1 month notice.<HR>
On the other hand, brand-new "7th Avenue Bar & Restaurant" is almost ready for its opening, awaiting their temporary license.

The walls have been painted and they already had a photo shoot for their future website, I've heard from a friend. To be run and managed by Saheb, all-grown-up-now son of Prafull. I'm looking forward to a new local eatery and a fresh start in this long-neglected location, the former Village Bakery.

I hope they'll be serving more than just Indian food (?) as YSW is now well-served with great Indian food by the Beer Garden and especially The Waterfront's new and very well-received Indian menu.

No need to brush up on my Cantonese, my spelling is exactly the one on the restaurant's outdoor sign, in English, which is the official English name.

I'm well aware that it's pronounced differently in Cantonese from the name written on the restaurant sign.

Well, where to get really good wonton noodles nowadays?

Nobody will look at my beautiful garden, where will I get my soy sauce. I get it from Myrna myrna and beer...... HK government how could do something so mean? Can't you leave normal people alone for once. Yes yes, we get it, you're all over Lords, who have Godlike powers over life and death, mostly death (because of the health clinic issues). Can't you just afford this ONE little mercy?

The landlord refused to tell me why he broke the lease, but the insider word seems to be that it's not the Govt. putting on pressure but neighbours complaining about the noise of people (from different nationalities, but mostly Filipinos) partying outside Myrna's place, even after she closed at 9pm every night and was closed on Sundays.

I should ask the Sha Po Old Village Representative about this story. I've finally met him (he actually found me, introducing himself) at last night's Women's Day dinner/Karaoke/Lucky Draw in Sampan. He was extremely friendly but too happily drunk to be asked any specific question re: matters in "his" village. I've got his number now to follow up.

Myrna's found a regular job in town now, being tired of moving her little C-5 neighborhood store once again, from Tai Yuen to Sha Po Old Village just last summer.
